Bubblegum Song of the Day

A Little Bit O’Soul - The Music Explosion

This ‘67 release predates the bubblegum movement by about two years. So, it can be considered proto-gum.  This band is linked to their bubblegum peers by being signed by record producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz who would go on with their label Buddah Records to be the svengali of The 1910 Fruitgum Co, The Ohio Express, The Lemon Pipers and others.

The Music Explosion “appear” on the Bubblegum super-group record “The Kasenetz and Katz Orchestral Circus” - more on that weird record later.

Little Bit O’Soul was later was covered by The Ramones and is really fantastic.

Bubblegum song of the day:

You’ve Come a Long Way Baby (Single Edit) - Josie and the Pussycats

This one’s a very charming handclapper.  It’s resemblance to the J5’s The Love You Save only makes it more so.  Some great work came out of these Josie sessions.  Enjoy.

EVERYTHING'S Archie!

OK - so - a blog called Magiccarpetburn has posted links to the FIRST FOUR Archie’s albums (that’s all but their swan-song “This is Love”).  This is basically the holy grail of bubblegum.  Go there now and download away.  Be patient - it’s rapidshare, but it’s so, so worth it.

1910 Fruitgum co. Cover recreation

This is a totally awesome recreation of one of my favorite album covers.  I am thinking of starting another Tumblr focused on Bubblegum in all it’s permutations, but I’m hardly the leading expert on the genre, just a zealous fan.  Should I open it to contributors and see how it goes?  I feel like there’s a hole in the tumblrverse when it comes to a tumblr about the subject and I’d like to fill it.
